We had never met.  I remember him to be attractive, chatty and I suppose quite charming. We met on a plane on a long haul flight – he was in the next seat. There were just two seats together. I was by the window and he was on the aisle.

How/where did the hookup BEGIN? What led to it? Was planning involved? Who instigated it? No planning. I simply found myself next to him on the plane. The flight was an overnight flight – we were in the air for around 9 hours. We chatted easily as soon as we met, ate dinner and settled for the night with the airline blankets provided covering us and seats back as far as they would go.

To whom did you talk about the hookup? How did they react? No-one at the time although my current boyfriend knows the story. Not a problem regarding reaction – he’s very open minded and sexually experienced….although he has teased me occasionally!

Was this a consensual and/or wanted experience for you? For your partner? Yes it was consensual……if I hadn’t been happy with the situation I wouldn’t have let it happen. At no point did I feel coerced or threatened. It was erotic.

Do you regret this hookup? If so, why? It felt a little weird and I wasn’t quite sure how I should feel but I just carried on with my life and now remember it fondly as an erotic encounter during my youth.

What was the BEST thing about this hookup? How about the WORST? Has this hookup changed the way you think about casual sex, sexuality, or yourself in general? It was a wonderful erotic experience with no strings attached. I don’t remember his name or anything about him except the experience.

I hate that there are still double standards around sex. My teenage daughters tell me that among their peers if you don’t, you’re frigid, if you do, you’re a slut.

I find it gut-wrenching that nothing has changed in 30 years and I can see why people search for casual sex with strangers – it’s kind of safer in a very weird way!
