We were neighbors since we were in diapers. Our parents were friends but we resented each other. We went to the same school. He was always first place in the class rankings but three when it came to looks. We had never hooked up before. I don’t think we ever had a conversation past snaring comment.

I went back home (Kenya) for a few weeks to visit my family. On my second day, my grandparents threw a party where all the neighbors and family were invited. Thus, his parents told him he could not miss it. He came towards the end when my cousin and I were sneaking off to go smoke a cigarette and he decided to follow us. When we got back to the party, most of the adults were really drunk. So he, my cousin, one of my friends and I went to my old room and we all sat there. Somehow I ended up on his lap with his arms around me, just making out.

But we continued seeing each other and hooking up for the 4 weeks when I was back home. Then I never kept in contact with him after I came back to the U.S.

Casual sex has a really bad reputation and it especially is when women do it. But I think this is something that is fairly normal and does not need a taboo factor around it. Just enjoy it and be safe. If you are like me and condoms are not always your thing, actually talk about your STD/STI history and when the last time you got checked was.
